I am a Mummy!
‘Wow Hera, that was not very subtle.’
‘I Know I am just excited. Me a mummy. So weird.’
‘You do realize you are carrying on a conversation with yourself and typing it too.’
Well, if you have not figured it out by now, I just gave birth to the most adorable baby girl. She is the reason behind my erratic blogging. Yeah, I know I never mentioned it all these nine months, It is kind of
African Nigerian thing to keep such things under wraps (like one can actually keep a nine month pregnancy under wraps, unless you live alone in a cave), but generally, you don’t talk about it until after (as my nephew says) the baby has POPPED!! I always thought it was silly and unnecessary. However, experience has taught me that it is actually a wise move.
So on December 25th (It would have had more significance if I were a Christian), at 08.26a.m, my little duchess came into the world with a huge frown. My ever wonderful family, who were on stand by all the way from Nigeria, wasted no time in spreading the news as soon as my husband called it in. The publicity was so massive that as I returned to the ward, I had 38 BB messages, 25 e mails,15 missed calls and at least 5 Whatsapp messages. I felt so loved, though it did make me wonder about the current World of Social Media (discourse for another day). At that point, my phone was commandeered by my Commander-in-Chief (Not my husband, his mother) and her 1st lieutenant (The husband).
So now I am a mummy. It is taking some serious getting used to and I keep wondering if my little duchess knows what she is in for. I have already planned her life till she gets to 35, so a bumpy road ahead for her. Hehehe. Yeah she does look like my husband’s family The Pereiras, but her actions and her toughness so far already indicates that she is going to have the bad-assery (is this a word), amazing loyalty, kindness and generally awesomeness that the Idrisu’s family, my familia, possesses.
Best Part of it all, I can put a picture up on my BB without someone commenting that I have gone fat or asking if I was pregnant. Worst Part – I haven’t lost all the weight yet. (Yes I know it has just been 6 days. Yes I know I gained over 15 kg and it is Foolhardy to expect it to be gone ANY time soon, but hey a girl can dream right)
She doesn’t have a name yet. She will be named on the 1st January 2014 back in Nigeria. Her party here in Bahrain will hopefully be on February 14th 2014. (She is a special kid. The date of her events have interesting significance) Will give all the up to date planning on that in the nearest future)
So what did I leave out? HO HO HO. Of course. Meet my baby currently known as ‘baby’ or ‘chinko’ (by my Mother in law)
